Thank You for an Incredibly Successful Groundbreaking!

Thank to all who participated in the Gratts Community Peace Garden Groundbreaking! We had 75 determined volunteers come together to dig up well over half the "farm" (Raul Flores jokes our space is so large that it is not a garden, it is a farm)!
We have many people to thank for the success of this day, here's a few that I felt the need to send a special shout out to:

  • The Office of Community Beautification for believing in our project, for lending us an enormous amount of tools, and for sending Salyna Cun who was amazing at tearing up grass!
  • Raul Flores, an unbelievable asset! Thank you Raul for all your time and dedication to this project. Thank you for organizing the volunteers, we couldn't have done it without you.
  • Miguel Contreras Urban Empowerment Club, you guys were awesome and made the day even more fun :) We look forward to you coming on Tuesdays to work in the garden with the Gratts kiddos!
  • Gratts Community and Parents, the parents were AMAZING and worked so hard, thank you! Thank you to Lili and the parent volunteers for providing fruit and coffee.
  • Lisa Novick from the Theodore Payne Foundation, you were here in spirit, thank you for all the time, energy, and expertise you have given us. We are so appreciative.
  • Ernie and Jonathon, they stayed till the end (on Valentines Day non the less) and kept us in bathrooms. Thanks guys!
  • Brooklyn Bagels on Beverly for donating enough bagels to keep the 75 volunteers' tummy's full.
I wish I could list everyone's names! Thank you all for your hard work, enthusiasm, and most of all for caring about your community and spending your Valentine's Day making a difference!

February 14, 2009 Groundbreaking!

Groundbreaking!

Come join us at Evelyn T. Gratts Elementary School on Saturday, February 14, 2009 to break ground in the Gratts Community Peace Garden! We will be digging up grass and preparing the land to plant a California Native Plant garden. This is a community event so please bring your friends and family as well as your gardening tools, a hat, and grubby clothes/shoes. We will provide some gardening tools and light refreshments. This is a good way to meet community members and do something great for the neighborhood! We need your help!
